Somatic Movement Class

Somatic Movement Class

A Somatic Movement class focuses on exploring body awareness and movement through mindful practices. It aims to enhance physical and emotional well-being by helping participants connect with their body's sensations, improve movement patterns, and release tension.

WHY do we practice Somatic Movements?

  • Body Awareness:
Somatic movement helps increase awareness of your body, improving your ability to tune into sensations, posture, and alignment.

  • Stress Relief:
The mindful, gentle movements promote relaxation, reducing stress and helping to release physical and emotional tension stored in the body.

  • Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation:
By improving body mechanics and flexibility, somatic movement can aid in injury prevention and recovery from chronic pain or injury.

  • Mind-Body Connection:
These classes foster a deeper connection between mind and body, enhancing emotional well-being and overall balance.

  • Improved Movement and Mobility:
Somatic practices enhance coordination, joint mobility, and functional movement, making everyday tasks feel easier and more fluid.

WHAT TO EXPECT in Somatic movement classes?

1. Slow, Mindful Movement: The class focuses on slow, intentional movements that help you become more aware of your body and its sensations.

2. Breath Awareness: You will be guided to connect your breath with your movements, encouraging relaxation and deeper body awareness.

3. Somatic Exercises: The instructor will lead you through specific exercises designed to release tension, increase mobility, and improve body alignment.

4. Focus on Sensations: Expect to focus on how your body feels during the movements rather than performing them perfectly, encouraging inner awareness.

5. Emotional Release: As somatic movement helps release stored tension and stress, you may experience emotional shifts or insights during the class.

6. Gentle Pace: The class typically moves at a slower pace, allowing time for introspection, careful movement, and listening to your body’s needs.

7. Individual Experience: The class is designed to be adaptable to each participant’s unique needs and limitations, making it accessible for all levels.
