World Wellness Weekend: Three Days to Slow Down on the Kep Coast

From 18 to 20 September 2026, Kep West Wellness turns the pier, the garden and the dining rooms of Knai Bang Chatt into a single, unhurried invitation: come and remember what it feels like to have nothing to do but breathe, move and eat well by the sea.

There is a particular quality of light on the Kep coast just after six in the morning — soft, low, the colour of weak tea — and it is in this light that Kep West Wellness will open its first World Wellness Weekend, a three-day programme built around the simplest possible idea: that wellbeing is not a product to be purchased in a single session, but a rhythm that needs a few days to settle back into the body.
World Wellness Weekend is an international movement, marked every September in cities and retreats around the world. Kep West Wellness — the wellness arm of Knai Bang Chatt, working in partnership with The Wave and The Strand — has built its own version around what this stretch of coastline already does best: quiet water, old rain trees, food that tastes of where it was grown, and enough space between activities to actually notice all three.

Three Mornings, Three Ways to Begin
The weekend opens gently on Friday afternoon with a Kirtan chanting session, followed by thirty minutes of sound meditation — Tibetan and Himalayan bowls, their tones settling over the garden as the light drops. Both sessions are open to the community free of charge, a soft entry point for anyone in Kep who wants to try before committing to a full morning practice.

Saturday and Sunday belong to the mornings. At 5:30, before the heat and before the boats go out, guests gather on the oceanfront pier for yoga and meditation facilitated by Kep West's resident teachers — sessions shaped as much by the tide and the light as by any fixed sequence. On the covered deck, classes lean into deeper stretches and longer holds, guided step by step for every level in the room. Sunday closes the loop with a community yoga class taught in Khmer, opening the practice to neighbours and staff as much as to hotel guests.

Beyond the Mat: Into the Mangroves
Wellness, at Kep West, has never meant staying still. On Saturday afternoon, the programme moves off the yoga mat and into the water for a mangrove kayak excursion — a slow paddle through one of the last intact mangrove systems on this stretch of coast, with a short mangrove-planting stop built into the route. It is the kind of activity that quietly does two things at once: it moves the body after a morning of stillness, and it puts something back into the landscape that makes Kep worth visiting in the first place.

The Table as Part of the Practice
Each evening of the weekend closes at the table rather than away from it. On Friday, dinner is served at The Wave; on Saturday and Sunday, at The Strand — three vegetarian fine-dining menus built specifically around the weekend, designed to be light enough to sleep well on and generous enough to feel like an occasion. Dietary requirements are welcome with 48 hours' notice, and each dinner is priced separately from the free community sessions so guests can build the weekend that suits them.

What's Included, and How to Book
The oceanfront yoga and meditation sessions, the Kirtan and sound meditation evening, the Kep Coastal Wellness Run and the Khmer-language community class are all free and open to the public, though places are limited and advance booking is required. The Free-Flow Breakfast, the mangrove kayak excursion and the three evening dinners are offered at $15, $15 and $25 respectively. Rooms at Knai Bang Chatt for the weekend start at $129 per night, breakfast included, with early check-in offered subject to availability.
For a hotel that has spent years building its reputation on quiet — on the pier at dawn, on unhurried service, on a kitchen that treats vegetables with the same seriousness as anything else on the menu — World Wellness Weekend is less a departure than a distillation: three days that ask guests to do very little, and give them, in exchange, the rare feeling of having done exactly enough.
